In a previous documentary made by GMA's 'Front Row' the story of Lola Maria that was enttled "Mga Barya ni Lola Maria' was featured. She revealed that diving for the whole day lets her earn coins that ranges from a hundred t two hundred pesos, depending on the number of the people in the ferry.
Lola Maria uses her small boat to reach the Lucena pier where she asks the passengers of the ferry to throw some money for her to get. Her small earnings are the ones that provide the needs of her grandchildren.
Before she collected coins, she used to collect corals to sell to the tourists but then the government banned the harvesting of corals, leaving her no choice but to ask for alms.
However, because of her age, her body already starts to weaken and so she noticed that she's already having a hard time breathing. Because of having troubles in breathing and deteriorating vision, she sometimes loses the coins that she collected.
Now, she's hoping to just run a small business on her own instead of putting her life at risk by gathering coins from the passengers.
